Department of Respiratory, New and Re-emerging Viral Infections

Acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) are one of the pressing health problems worldwide and occupy a leading place in the structure of infectious pathology. Annual seasonal increases in the incidence of ARVI and their complications determine their high medical and social significance. ARVI is a group of diseases of the respiratory system, the causative agents of which are viruses tropic to the respiratory epithelium. ARVI includes such diseases as flu, respiratory syncytial, rhinovirus, adenovirus, bocavirus, metapneumovirus, parainfluenza infection and other infections that cause catarrhal inflammation of the respiratory tract.

Due to the globalization of processes on the planet, new and re-emerging infections have become a problem of international scale and are recognized as a priority health problem in all countries of the world. New and re-emerging infections include diseases that have recently emerged among the population, or existed previously, but have significantly increased the growth of diseases, or have appeared in a new geographic region. Currently, more than 100 nosological forms are classified as such diseases. Of particular interest today are natural focal diseases, the carriers and transmitters of which are an integral part of ecosystems.

The Department of Respiratory, New and Re-emerging Viral Infections studies the features of the etiology and diagnosis of acute respiratory viral infections and new and re-emerging viral infections. The department plans to study the phylogenetic characteristics of hantavirus strains, SARS-CoV-2 circulating in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
