On September 9 of this year, the Research Institute of Virology of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Epidemiology, Microbiology, Infectious and Parasitic Diseases hosted an event dedicated to the adoption of drugs against hepatitis C virus - gratuitous assistance from the Arab Republic of Egypt to Uzbekistan.
The event was attended by the Head of the Department of Coordination of Specialized centers of the Ministry of Health Zayniddin Asamutdinovich Sayfutdinov, Deputy Head of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health Service Kurbanov Botirjon Zhurabayevich, Director of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Epidemiology, Microbiology, Infectious and Parasitic Diseases Tajiyev Botir Mirhashimovich, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Uzbekistan Mrs. Amira Fahmi, Head of the Middle East and Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ismatilla Fayzullayev, Director of the Research Institute of Virology of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Epidemiology, Microbiology, Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, representatives of the media.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 200 million people are infected with the hepatitis C virus every year. Thus, according to 2020 data, more than 350,000 patients die annually from hepatitis C complications. The World Hepatitis Alliance announced last year that 1.4 million people die from hepatitis B and C viruses every year. And this means more than from HIV/AIDS and malaria.
The Presidential decree of May 16, 2022 "On improving measures to combat the spread of certain viral infections" defines the main directions for further improvement and expansion of medical and social assistance provided to the population for the period of timely prevention and diagnosis of certain viral infections among the population, as well as their treatment.
— conducting screening examinations in all regions of the republic for early detection of viral hepatitis "B" and "C" types and increasing the coverage of the disease treatment;
— free provision of medicines in the course of treatment of patients in whom screening tests revealed viral hepatitis type "C;
— phased full provision of consumables (reagents and test systems) for the detection of viral infections at the primary level of the healthcare system;
— creation and maintenance of a unified electronic register of chronic viral liver diseases in all medical and preventive institutions, sanitary and epidemiological service and non-governmental medical organizations;
In our republic, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Service of Sanitary and Epidemiological Peace and Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the processes of free examination in family polyclinics are continuing.
In total, the Egyptian government has sent 15,000 units of Sofosbuvir and 15,000 units of Daclatasvir to our country as gratuitous aid for a total amount of 302,000 US dollars. The drugs are used to treat patients diagnosed with viral hepatitis Type "C" during screening tests.
