A press conference dedicated to the prevention of cancer in women was held in the Samarkand region.

22 Июль 2022

July 22 at the Department of health of the Samarkand region of the Samarkand region, the Research Institute of Virology, the KOFIH foundation of South Korea and the Republican sanitary and epidemiological tranquility and public health service held a press conference on the topic "Issues of conducting research on the improvement of the distribution and diagnosis of human papilloma virus among the population in the regions of the  Republic” .

The conference was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Health, the KOFIH foundation of South Korea, the sanitary and epidemiological welfare and Public Health Service, Employees of the Samarkand Regional Administration, doctors of the scientific center, infectious diseases hospitals and media.

According to the WHO, every year more than 604 thousand women worldwide have the first recorded cervical cancer, of which 342 thousand die as a result of this disease.

At a press conference, it was noted that, as in the world, cervical cancer in Uzbekistan is the most common and most common post-breast cancer disease among women of all ages. In terms of mortality from diseases, cervical cancer is in third place among women of all ages after death due to breast and stomach cancer, and among women of childbearing age (15-44 years), the death rate from uterine cancer is in second place.

According to Globocan, 1,863 women in Uzbekistan are diagnosed with cervical cancer every year, and more than 42 percent of them die. Most of these deaths occur as a result of late diagnosis. The main (98-99 percent) cause of cervical cancer is the human papilloma virus (HPV).

Cervical cancer is a dangerous and common disease that occurs in women of all ages. The outbreak of the disease occurs at the age of 45-55 years.

Causes of cervical cancer-these are human papilloma viruses, sexually transmitted infections. It occurs in 80% of young people aged 21-30 years. Usually viruses "leave"the body in 2-3 years. Prolonged presence of the virus in the uterus can lead to the development of cancer. Cervical cancer is the only cancer that can be completely prevented. It develops slowly. The development of cancer is caused by pre-cancerous diseases. There is enough time to diagnose and treat them.

By Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 04.04.2017 No. 2866, the program “Further development of the oncological service and improvement of oncological care for the population in the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2017-2021” was approved. This program provides for the implementation of preventive and screening studies of oncological diseases, the formation of a unified database of cancer patients (chancellor-register), monitoring of the epidemiological situation with the development of effective programs for the prevention of oncological diseases.

In order to monitor the epidemiological situation, it is envisaged to implement an investment pilot project “Improving the capabilities of detecting human papillomavirus and diagnosing cervical cancer among women in the regions of the republic, including in the city of Tashkent, Samarkand and Andijan regions” in cooperation with the Research Institute of Virology and the South Korean Foundation KOFIH with the participation of 50,000 women. This project will be implemented within 3 years.

The main goal of this project is the prevention of oncological diseases by early detection of diseases caused by the human papillomavirus among women, and the study of the significance of screening for the 2nd risk factor for cancer,  by determining the percentage of prevalence of highly oncogenic types of HPV among women of fertile age.

The expected results from the ongoing pilot project were also announced at the press conference.

The following results are expected from the pilot project implemented in the republic:

* The spread of HPV in Uzbekistan is being studied for the first time at the republican level.

  • For HPV research, 3 special laboratories are being created.
  • The system will be created for early diagnosis of HPV and cervical cancer.
  • Standards, practical guidelines for HPV detection, cancer prevention and treatment will be developed in accordance with the world standard.
  • Early diagnosis and treatment of HPV leads to reduced morbidity and mortality from cervical cancer.

In the Andijan region, 6 percent of those who underwent re-examination in women were diagnosed with pre-cancer and 3 percent with cervical cancer.

And in Tashkent, 6 percent of women were diagnosed with pre-cancer diseases, but cervical cancer was not detected. The changes identified during the screening examination process are controlled by the relevant doctors and the necessary recommendations are being made.

The Research Institute of Virology of the Republican specialized scientific and practical Medical Center for Epidemiology, Microbiology, Infectious and parasitic diseases will ask you to take advantage of the opportunity and pass free examinations on time!
