On a trip to South Korea to study the morphological diagnosis of cervical cancer
(Training Course for Clinical Experts)
Dr.Lee Jong-wook Fellowship Program2021
KOFIH Global Training Program for Healthcare Workforce
Place of study: South Korea, Wonju
Organization Name: Wonju Severance Christian Hospital
Name of the training course: “Dr.Lee Jong-wook Fellowship Program for clinical experts”
"Morphological and immunohistochemical diagnostics of the cervical canal"
Course duration: 05/30/2022 - 07/17/2022
Since cervical cancer ranks 2nd in terms of incidence of oncological diseases among women of the Republic of Uzbekistan aged 15 to 44 years, and every year, on average, 1,795 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer in the country, as a result of which 768 die from this disease . In Asia, about 3.4% of women in the general population, according to international experts, suffer from HPV-16/18 cervical infection at some point in their lives, and the cause of invasive cervical cancer in 68.9% is HPV 16, 18, 31, 33 types.
In Uzbekistan, women aged 15 and over make up 11.2 million of the total population. And these women are not immune to the risk of developing cervical cancer.
Today, liquid cytological studies are widely used in gynecology for the diagnosis of cervical cancer. Early detection of this disease saves the lives and health of thousands of women, so the possession of this diagnostic technique is of such great importance.
In 2022, 2 laboratory assistants of the Research Institute of Virology of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Epidemiology, Microbiology, Infectious and Parasitic Diseases Akhmedova Sh.Kh. and Turabova N.R., under the KOFIH (Korea Foundation for International Healthcare-Korea Foundation for International Healthcare) project, they completed an internship at one of the largest and most prestigious higher educational institutions in South Korea, at Yonsei University –Severance Christian Hospital.
The knowledge and experience gained in the international internship of laboratory doctors Akhmedova Sh.Kh., and Turabova N.R. will provide an opportunity for early detection of cervical cancer, which will reduce the number of deaths and improve the quality of life of women.
