About the activities of the HIV Research Department of the Research Institute of Virology

The number of people living with HIV in Uzbekistan is growing every year, and the virus has spread to all segments of the population. It is necessary to conduct multidirectional research to avoid an increase in mortality from HIV infection due to disruptions in service delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic. To date, there is no means for a complete cure for HIV infection, and the etiotropic therapy used is prescribed for life. The above requires in-depth scientific research to identify factors and pathogenetic mechanisms leading to a severe course of the disease and to study the effectiveness and safety of the therapy in our country.

Department tasks:

1. Identification of clinical and pathogenetic features of the course of neurocognitive disorders, taking into account the determination of the state of the cytokine status and expression of small RNAs (microRNAs) in the development of dementia in patients with HIV infection;
2. Identification of clinical and pathogenetic features of the course and effectiveness of COVID-19 therapy in patients with HIV infection using domestic drugs;
3. Study of clinical, pathogenetic and virological aspects of the effectiveness of modern treatment of viral hepatitis C in HIV-infected patients;
4. Identification of clinical and immunological features of the course of HIV infection in combination with intestinal parasitosis;
5. Scientific substantiation of the effectiveness and safety of antiretroviral drugs used in our country for the treatment of patients with HIV infection.
