For the first time, Egypt received gratuitous assistance to Uzbekistan in the form of drugs against hepatitis C

19 Сентябрь 2022

In total, the Arab Republic has provided 30,000 drugs against the hepatitis virus. It is planned to supply medicines primarily for the needs of patients living in the Aral Sea region, as well as Kashkadarya, Namangan, Tashkent regions

As previously reported, the Egyptian government has provided 30,000 hepatitis virus drugs to the people of Uzbekistan free of charge.

On the eve of September 9, an event dedicated to taking medications was held at the Research Institute of Virology of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Along with the specialists of the Research Institute, the Ambassador of Egypt to Uzbekistan and the head of the Middle East and Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs took part in it.

It was noted that in total, the Egyptian government sent 15,000 units of Sofosbuvir and 15,000 units of Daklatasvir to our country as gratuitous aid for a total of $302 thousand. The drugs are used to treat patients diagnosed with viral hepatitis Type "C" during screening tests.

Unfortunately, many people know about this disease firsthand. According to WHO, 200 million people are infected with hepatitis C virus every year. According to statistics from 2020, more than 350 thousand patients die annually from complications of hepatitis C. The World Hepatitis Alliance announced last year that 1.4 million people die from hepatitis B and C viruses every year. And this indicator is significantly higher than from HIV/AIDS and malaria.

It is noteworthy that on May 16 of this year, the head of our state issued a decree "On improving measures to combat the spread of certain viral infections." The document defines the main directions for further improvement and expansion of medical and social assistance provided to the population for the period of timely prevention and diagnosis of certain viral infections among the population, as well as their treatment:

— conducting screening examinations in all regions of the republic for early detection of viral hepatitis "B" and "C" types and increasing the coverage of the disease treatment;

— free provision of medicines in the course of treatment of patients in whom screening tests revealed viral hepatitis type "C;

— phased full provision of consumables (reagents and test systems) for the detection of viral infections at the primary level of the healthcare system;

— creation and maintenance of a unified electronic register of chronic viral liver diseases in all medical and preventive institutions, sanitary and epidemiological service and non-governmental medical organizations;

By the way, in our republic, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the SES, the processes of free examination in family polyclinics continue.
