The purpose of the visit: to discuss the elimination of viral hepatitis B and C in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The country is taking important steps to improve and expand medical and social support to the population in terms of timely prevention and treatment of viral infections, in particular hepatitis B and C. Also was given information about work carried out according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 16.05.2022 №PP-243, in particular the work on providing free medicines to patients during treatment, which are diagnosed with viral hepatitis "C"; on providing consumables (reagents and test kits) to detect viral infections in the primary care system, creation and maintenance of a single electronic register of chronic viral diseases; on control of the quality and effectiveness of vaccines, test kits and other materials.
Opening the meeting, B.K. Yusupaliev, head of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service, introduced participants to the meeting and expressed gratitude for the practical assistance of partners in the development of the joint project.
Dr. Homi Razavi congratulated the leadership of the Sanitary Epidemiological Service and the staff of the Research Institute of Virology on the adoption of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and emphasized that it will result in improved prevention and control of infectious diseases. Also, Dr. Homi Razavi noted the successful implementation of the program of catalytic funding for the elimination of hepatitis in Uzbekistan on the WHO strategy, which will lead to the elimination of viral hepatitis C and a sharp decline in chronic viral hepatitis B, and appreciating the success of our program in Uzbekistan, the Ministries of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan were very interested in implementing this program in their countries.
On 31.01.2023, a meeting was held between the Director of the Research Institute of Virology E. I. Musabayev and the Director of the CAF Foundation Hоmi Razavi, as well as employees who participated in the UHP project in Uzbekistan. During the visit, Homi Razavi noted the contribution of staff in the implementation of the UHEP project, and emphasized that this work was the basis for this study at the state level.
Also, Homi Razavi noted that the experience gained in Uzbekistan has served as an example for the establishment of work on the elimination of viral hepatitis in other countries.
