Department of molecular-genetic analysis and cultural studies of Scientific-Research Institute of Virology

14 Август 2019

In 2008, in SRI of Virology MH RUz, Department of human genome and viruses sequencing started operating.

Modern science, studying infectious diseases, sets tasks to be solved to scientific and research works, for solving of which there is not enough capacity of even modern clinical laboratory. Yet 20-30 years ago, differential diagnosis of infectious diseases pathogens was carried out, using light microscope, and method of enzyme immunoassay even 5 years ago was considered progressive and most relevant, in modern infectology, diseases control passed on the molecular-genetic level.

In contrast to the polymerase chain reaction, which, in evolution way, became a product of increasing quality of diagnostics from method of enzyme immunoassay, genome sequencing is totally different scientific measurement of scientific space. Sequencing method does not carry functional load of diagnostic method, its main use is aimed at the study of the molecular -genetic properties of infectious diseases pathogens.

In SRI of Virology, using method of Sanger sequencing, the following types of research are conducted:

- study of HIV drug resistance to ART

- study of phylogenetic properties of HIV-1 circulating strains

  - study of phylogenetic properties of circulating strains of hepatitis В, С viruses

- study of phylogenetic properties of circulating strains of influenza virus

Sequencing Department also plans study in the field of phylogenetic characteristics of strains, circulating in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan, of the following infectious diseases:

-  Hantavirus infection

-  Human papilloma virus

- Rotavirus infection and pathogens of acute enteric infection.
